Shruti wins Siel Golf

NEW DELHI: Shruti Khanna withstood mounting pressure to edge out defending champion Parnita Garewal and nine-time winner Nonita Lal Qureshi and claim the Siel 31st Ladies Northern India Golf Championship by a single stroke at the Delhi Golf Club course on Friday.

The tall, US trained Shruti, who fired the lone sub-par round of the tournament with a 71 to jump into joint lead with Parnita and Nonita yesterday, came up with a steady one-over 73 to aggregate 297 and clinch the title.

Final scores: 297 Shruti Khanna 76777173; 298 Parnita Garewal 74777374; 299 Nonita Lal Qureshi 75727775; 309 Anjali Chopra 79757778, Urvashi Sethi 75797383.

Karthikeyan for Macau GP

NEW DELHI: India8217;s Formula-3 driver Narain Karthikeyan will participate in the Macau Grand Prix on November 22. Karthikeyan, sponsored by JK Tyres, will be racing on the Macau track which is holding the event for past 43 years.

The Grand Prix, where participation is by invitation,has drawn best of the drivers from all over the world in the past including world champions Micahel Schumacher, Damon Hill, the late Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost. The current Formula-1 drivers David Coulthard and Eddie Irvine have also raced on the track.

PSB hold A-I

NEW DELHI: Holders Air-India A-I lost what looked a good opportunity to claim full points in their pool 3 game against Punjab and Sind Bank PSB, 1-1, in the ONGC-Nehru Senior Hockey tournament at the National Stadium here on Friday. Deepak Sonkhala put A-I in the lead while Rajinder Singh Jr equalised for PSB. Steel Authority of India Ltd SAIL fought back strongly to down Army XI 3-2 in pool 1 while seeded Sri Lanka bit the dust, 0-10, once again against a tough Punjab Police side in pool 2 to bow out of the tournament.

PUNE: The three-day rain-ruined West Zone under-19 Cooch Behar tie between hosts Maharashtra and Mumbai ended in a tame draw here on Friday.Mumbai, overnight 136 for three, piled up293 for eight before declaring their first innings one hour after lunch on the final day. Set with a daunting task of scoring 294 in 143 minutes including 15 mandatory overs. Maharashtra, however, managed 99 for six to earn a draw.
