India and China held a Border Personnel Meeting (BPM) on the Sino-Indian border at Bum La in Arunachal Pradesh on Friday. The meeting, which is conducted annually in May, comes weeks after the countries exchanged tough words over the sensitive finger area in Northern Sikkim during a border post meeting.
The BPM is conducted at Bum La since 1999 and is aimed at improving relations between the Indian Army and PLA personnel who man the Sino-Indian border. India also used the opportunity to convey grief over the loss of life due to the earthquake in China.
“During the interaction, both delegations reaffirmed their resolve to maintain peace and tranquility along the border. This event is a positive step in strengthening relations between the two neighbours of Asia, who are also the world’s two oldest civilizations,” a Ministry of Defence statement said.
