NAGPUR, OCT 7: Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) chief, K S Sudarshan today said a vast country like India with the help of other developing countries can stop the World Trade Organisation (WTO) from being a puppet in the hands of some developed nations.
Warning of an economic invasion on India, Sudarshan said the development of the West was based on exploitation. Stating that developing countries, which had 20 per cent of the world population, were enjoying 80 per cent of its resources. While countries having 80 per cent world population had to fend themselves on 20 per cent of the resources, he lamented.
Addressing the Vijaya Dashmi rally of the RSS, which completed 75 years today, Sudarshan elaborately discussed the development of Western economy, which he said was based on procurement of raw material on cheaper rates and capturing markets for finished products. Earlier during the colonial era, the Western economy fended itself on its colonies rendering them poorer and imperialist nations richer. He said the end of colonial era posed a problem for new markets.
Stating that the development of England had translated into impoverishment of India, he said the grave unemployment problem had its root in the 200 years of British yoke. He felt that world organisations, including the World Bank, the IMF and the WTO were formed for capturing the newer markets.
Describing the rules and regulations of the WTO to be very intricate and complex, Sudarshan said that very few bureaucrats and still fewer ministers understood it.
The escalation of petroleum prices in the world market has disturbed the economies of the petroleum-importing nations. Stating that the oil-pool deficit has gone up from Rs 12,000 crore to Rs 23,500 crore, he said the government was trying to counter it. Reminding that it was the government, which was doing the maximum misuse of petrol, he said unless the government curbs its petroleum expenditure, people would not take it seriously.
Commenting on the over-blown cabinets in different states, the RSS chief said the expenditure for maintaining cars and security behind every minister was enormous. He exhorted the ministers to play a role model in saving the precious petrol and diesel.
Sudarshan urged for the search of alternate energy sources as the existing oil and gas sources, would not last for more than 20 years. Informing that ethnol prepared from molasses had come up as a substitute for petrol in recent years, he said that the new fuel was already being used in Brazil and other countries. The indigenous production of ethnol would save foreign exchange to the tune of Rs 5,000 crore.
