NASHIK, JULY 27: The former Minister of State for energy, Tukaram Dighole, who, along with four Independent ministers joined the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), said that the Independents who were given ministerial berths were not responsible in any way for the misdoings of the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance government in Maharashtra, as they had no say in policy making.
Talking to reporters, Dighole said that the independents had no powers and that they were never involved in policy decisions. He said that they just had to implement the policies decided by the State Cabinet and hence could not be held responsible for the maladministration of the Government.
Dighole said that like other Independent ministers, he too had promised support to the Sena-BJP Government to ensure stability and had to bear with the Government. He said he had to suffer embarrassment for the past four-and-a-half years as a Minister of State and continued to do so to keep his promise of a stable government. He said that his ministerial tenure was `suffocating’.
He further said that he had been in touch with Sharad Pawar for the past six months and decided to join the NCP along with four of his Cabinet colleagues. Dighole, who was an associate member of the Sena, said that he had done so because he wanted to get public works done in his Sinnar constituency. He claimed that the Sena had offered him a ticket, but he had refused.
Dighole said he joined the NCP without any expectations and only to strengthen the hands of Pawar. Dighole had been a Pawar supporter MLA from Sinnar till 1995 when he was denied a Congress ticket. He subsequently contested and won as an Independent.
