MUMBAI, JULY 12: Neil D’Costa used his head and then his left-foot to give Income-Tax a 2-0 win and three points against Mahindras Junior in the Gulf Oil WIFA Super Division League at the Cooperage.

On the half-hour, he deflected a high ball from the midfield past the bemused defence and stunned Mahindra Junior goalkeeper Abrar Ansari.

His second goal came with a left-foot blast that followed Camilo Naronha’s pass from the right.

In fact, this Senior Division clash was between teams who have suffered contrasting fortunes last season. Income-Tax have been relegated from the Super Division while Mahindra Juniors have gained promotion from First.

In effect, it was a lop-sided clash with Mahindra Juniors having only a few attacking moments. The I-T midfield kept the Mahindra defence busy but their forward kept missing at every opportunity.

The only other time when I-T strikers were on target, Abrar Ansari thwarted them with a brilliant save off Neil D’Costa’s shot.

At the other end, Anthony Poqellmissed twice in one move — first hitting into a defender and then blasting the rebound into the post.
