The Haryana Police, in collaboration with New India Assurance and Oriental Insurance companies, has taken a new initiative by announcing an award of Rs 500 each to the first 200 people who extend their help to the victims of road accidents. This decision was taken during a state-level seminar organised by Haryana Police for creating awareness about electronic gadgets and use of GPS (Global Positioning System) to prevent road accidents, under the guidance of Ranjeev Dalal, Director General of Police, Haryana and V.N. Rai, ADGP (Law and order) at Police Lines, Panchkula. The seminar was presided over by B.S. Sandhu, IGP (Law and Order) along with R.C. Mishra, DIG and hosted by Rajpal Singh, AIG (Traffic) Haryana. Sandhu requested the insurance company representatives for financing the traffic rules and safety awareness campaigns through various media. He said Haryana police has taken various initiatives including high speed interceptors and Traffic Police Stations, in each district, with facilities such as an ambulance with paramedic staff, crane, gypsy, motorcycle speed radar, camera and saw machines. Rajpal Singh came with up with the idea of data sharing with insurance companies, so the regular offenders can be taken to task, either by increased premiums or by canceling their license.He said people avoid getting involved because of procedural complications, with the new rules the victims aid need not go through the lengthy procedures. While participating in the seminar, Insurance representatives informed that Insurance companies paid about Rs 3,600 crore every year as claims to road accidents.
