Harayana men and Karnataka women completed a clean sweep of the gold medals, the former winning two more in the double sculls and coxed fours and the latter claiming the single scull and coxed fours in the rowing event today.
International R.K. Pillay and National champion Binoy Lucos were atleast three lengths ahead, winning the double sculls race against Karnataka’s Bhaskar Reddy and Satish Kumar, who took the silver. Chandigarh claimed the bronze when Nardev Singh and Gurjinder Singh defeated Haryana’s Karanvir Singh and Pappi Singh. Services bagged their fourth gold when Ramphal Singh, Jagbir Singh, Raghuvir Singh, R.P. Shelke with Sandeep Nikam as the cox, pulled ahead midway to win the coxed fours race against Maharashtra’s Rajeev Dixit, Dalvir Singh, Satpal Singh and Gurminder Singh (cox). Karnataka’s Jincy Mol, headed the team’s win in the coxed fours, defeating Andaman and Nicobar. Jincy Mol then bagged another gold defeating Andaman’s Suchitra Mondal. Kerala’s S Sunanda took the bronze.
Two gold for UP, hosts
Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka captured two gold each in the taekwondo championships, while Manipur picked up their third one at the Koramangala Indoor Stadium today. U.P. secured their maiden gold in taekwondo events when Susanth Gupta emerged victorious in the men’s welter-weight, pushing Karnataka’s B.M. Krishna Murthy to the second spot. Manipur’s Himinanda Singh Maisanam and Devender Dutt Gaur (Delhi) got the bronze. Uttar Pradesh increased their gold medal tally after Manoj Kamanjia took the top spot, brushing aside Rajender Kumar of Delhi. Kerala women, placed third in the last edition, put up an impressive performance against West Bengal before emerging winners 4-2 in their last match and carried away the silver medal in the five-team round-robin league of the water polo event today. Maharashtra, having topped the pool with an all-win record, have already won the gold, while defending champion Bengal had to be content with the bronze.
