In the first meeting of the Unified Command Council, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on Thursday reviewed the overall security situation in the state and asked the security forces to ensure safety of the common man.

The meeting assumed significance in the backdrop of increase in violence across the country. The Chief Minister, who heads the Unified Command Council, had a detailed discussion with senior officials of the Army, Border Security Forces, Central Reserve Police Force and police.

Sources said Azad asked security forces to ensure safety of the civilians while tackling with militants. Azad also directed the security agencies to speed up operations against the militants. —Mir Ehsan
