Five days after Chief Minister Shibu Soren filed his nomination papers for the bypoll in Tamar (ST) Assembly constituency, his rivals lodged a number of complaints against him alleging violations of the Model Code of Conduct. On the day Soren filed his nomination papers, three ministers — Bandhu Tirkey, Nalin Soren and Dulal Bhuinya — allegedly used their official vehicles, fitted with beacon lights, to accompany him from Ranchi to the office of the Returning Officer at Bundu, contravening rules. “This is a clear violation of the Code of Conduct,” alleges a petition faxed to the EC by Jharkhand Vikas Morcha candidate Ram Durlabh Singh Munda. Also, the brand new official SUV which Soren used to go to Bundu allegedly did not have numberplates. While Ranchi Deputy Commisioner R V Ekka said he would look into the matter, Leader of Opposition Arjun Munda said his party has decided to lodge a complaint with the EC against the violations.
