In Kanpur, 150 cops missing in action but take salaries

The district police have been asked to inquire into exposure that around 150 ‘missing’ constables are regularly withdrawing their salary

.

The district police have been asked to inquire into exposure that around 150 ‘missing’ constables are regularly withdrawing their salary, though the police department is clueless about their present postings. According to information, the inquiry would also calculate the financial damages due to this irregularity, though sources maintained the amount runs into lakhs.

Setting up the inquiry to get the details, SSP Alok Kumar Singh has directed concerned officials to submit a report within 24 hours. The findings came to light when the department was doing a headcount of police personnel in the district to assign them poll duties, sources said. The SSP had sought a list of constables, and it emerged that whereabouts of 150-odd constables are not known to anyone in the department. According to information, most of the ‘missing’ constables are withdrawing salaries from the Police Lines by wrongly showing that they are posted at the offices of DG, IG, DIG and others in the department. A senior police official said the department is working on finding out the exact number of constables who are part of this irregularity.
