Chief Minister Narendra Modi cut short the BJP Legislature Party (BJPLP) meeting on Monday and didn’t allow MLAs to raise their grievances.

Earlier, he talked about how MLAs can effectively participate in the discussion on the budget during the current Assembly session and wound up the meeting in half-an-hour.

Many legislators raised their hands, signalling that they wanted to air their views at the meeting. Senior MLA and former minister Gordhan Zadaphiya also made a bid to suggest that discontent was simmering among party legislators as their grievances were not being redressed. But, Modi reportedly stood up and declared the meeting was over.

‘‘Some MLAs have complained to me that they were not allowed to air their views at the BJPLP meeting on Monday evening. The party leadership will sort out this issue at the earliest,’’ state BJP chief Rajendrasinh Rana told reporters. He conceded that there was discontent brewing among party MLAs against Modi’s style of functioning and said ‘‘we will take care of it’’. Rana returned from Delhi after a meeting with L.K. Advani and central party leaders and went straight to the Assembly building to attend the meeting.

Zadaphiya declined to comment on what happened at the BJPLP meeting. But another senior MLA said that many members including Bharat Barot, Yogesh Patel, Dhirubhai Gajera and Chhatrasinh Mori did not get a chance to express their views.

‘‘Party MLAs are unhappy with the CM’s high-handed behaviour. He is hardly accessible to MLAs and he doesn’t allow us to speak at a party forum like the BJPLP meeting. There seems to be no democracy in the party. Now, we are left with no option, but to draw the attention of the central party bosses,’’ another senior MLA and former minister said. Besides, the CM should be directed to expand his Cabinet and appoint MLAs and party workers to various corporations without any delay, he demanded.
