Lecture on heart disease todayA lecture and presentation on Heart Diseases, Prevention and Cure, has been organised today by the Symbiosis Centre of Health Care (SCHC) at the Ambedkar Sabhagruha of Symbiosis.Dr V Sardesai, Dr Jagdish Hiremath, Dr Nitin Unkule, Dr Kalyan Gangwal and Dr Rajendra Babale will speak on the occasion. The SCHC has also organised a week-long DORH programme to help company executives and professionals adopt a healthier lifestyle, with exercise, diet control and yoga.The SCHC, a branch of the Symbiosis Society, aims at providing preventive and curative health measures to its students and employees, and to achieve a state of `positive health', for all. With this idea in mind, the SCHC has joined hands with Joshi and Ratna Memorial Hospitals and the Kaivalya Yoga Institute.Harassed housewife ends lifeDeepali Rajendra Gondkar, a 20-year-old housewife residing at Warje, recently committed suicide due to the alleged harassment by her husband and in laws over domestic matters.Deepali had set herself afire at her residence on October 21. She succumbed to the high degree burns while undergoing treatment at the Sassoon Hospital on Tuesday. Deepali's husband Rajendra (25), father-in-law Ganapatrao (55) and mother-in-law Sundar were arrested by Kothrud police after her father Sarang Kakade lodged a complaint claiming that the Gondkars' were harassing Deepali because she did not have a child.Trio nabbed for fake ration cardsThe Yerawada police on Tuesday arrested three persons who allegedly tried to obtain ration cards on the basis of forged documents. The three accused - Ankayya Michael Kondappa (30) of Ghorpadi, Sanjay Ramchandra Dhapte (31) of Mundhawa and Rashid Sayyed Hanif (44) of Aundh, have been charged with forgery and cheating.Police said the trio submitted some forged documents at the food distribution office at Yerawada and tried to obtain ration cards in their names. The incident came to light when the officials from the food distribution office suspected the authenticity of the documents and verified them, police said.Dnyana Devi annual drama contestDnyana Devi has announced its annual competitions including Smt Padmavati Khare memorial children's drama competition, Dyana Devi Trophy women's one-act competition and Sau. Indirabai Sahasrabudhe Memorial dance competition.The drama competition is open to children below 16 years. One-act plays for both the drama competitions can be presented in Marathi/Hindi or English. The dance competition will be conducted in two sections -group classical and folk. All presentations are required to be on specified subjects.
