Civic agencies to step up work to prevent diseases
The Delhi Chief Minister today directed the officials of the concerned departments and agencies to work overtime to effectively prevent vector and water-borne diseases in the Capital. She exhorted the officials today to work with proper co-ordination to prevent the diseases like malaria, cholera and gastro-enteritis. It was concluded that the municipal health officials will arrange fortnightly rounds alongwith the MLAs in their respective constituencies. The Chief Minister further directed the officials to ensure that all eatables sold by the hawkers should be covered with glass.

Northern Railways personnel awarded
Northern Railways personnel were awarded for their meritorious services in 1998-99 at a function in Baroda House on Friday morning. As part of the 44th Railway Week being celebrated, 132 personnel were awarded. The Delhi Main station received the Station Cleanliness Award.

Ayurveda centre inaugurated
An ayurveda hospital began functioning in the Capital on Friday. The 20-bed hospital called Ayurveda Asramam at Safdarjung Enclave was inaugurated by Chief Mininter Shiela Dikshit. The residential treatment centre has been started by Sudha Asokan, an ayurveda physician, who runs Ayurveda Kendra with two branches in the city.

Cassettes released
The Chief of Army Staff, General Ved Prakash Malik released audio cassettes of martial music performed by the Indian military bands. The four cassettes that form a part of the album contain a variety of tunes composed by well-known military music composers Harold Joseph, J.H.D. Simeon, L.B. Gurung, A. Lobo, Ganesh Gurung, F.H. Reid and Surat Singh.

The tunes are based on folk lores from Punjab, Rajasthan, Marwar, Garhwal and Konkan. Speaking at the function, General Malik said in addition to providing listening pleasure, the album will also act as a force multiplier in sustaining and raising the morale of the troops.

Conference of anaesthesiologists
The Bada Hindu Rao Hospital is organising a conference of the Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists at Ashoka Hotel on April 17 and 18. The highlight of this year’s meet is a discussion on the proposed Indian College of Anaesthesiology to be set up in Delhi by the Society. Anaesthesiologists from abroad as also those from India will be participating.
