Women centre holds paper reading contest
A paper reading contest was organised by the Women Study Centre of Government College, Panchkula on "Politics and Women and Effects of Cable TV on Indian population". Sandhya Kalia (B.Com.-III), Rishi and Shivani Rao, both of B.A.-III won the first prize. Monica Sharma (B.A.-II) and Tarun were adjudged second and third respectively. The function was presided over by Lily Rishi, head of the Department of English. According to Kapila Pankaj, incharge Women Study Centre, 15 students participated in the contest.

NSS camp concludes
A ten-day NSS camp of students of Dev Samaj College of Education for Women, Sector 36, concluded here today. The valedictory function was presided over by the Dean University Instructions, I B S Passi.

Adult education dept programme
The Department of Adult and Continuing Education, Punjab University, organised an awareness day at Khuda Ali Sher in collaboration with the NSS unit of the Government Home Science College, Sector 10. Dr Sareen from the Department of Adult Education gave a talk on pollution. R Birinder Singh, programme organiser from the Government Home Science College stressed the need for people’s participation, while Rashmi Walia, also of the same college presented the vote of thanks.

Hindi Fortnight concludes
The "Hindi fortnight" organised by Ordnance cable factory concluded today. Events included essay contests, poetry recitation and slogan writing competitions.

`No work, no pay’ protested
A protest rally was held by the Punjab Irrigation Clerical Association, here today. The employees flayed the government’s move on "no work no pay" and described it as "unjustified".

SBP demonstration
State Bank of Patiala Employees Union held a demonstration in front of its zonal office here to express their "concern over the bad condition of the bank" , said a release issued by the union.
