Sewerage employees’ union holds dharna
A dharna was held by Sewerage Employees’ Union of MC, in front of the Corporation office in support of their demands. They were demanding that employees of the Administration transferred to MC be treated as on deputation and release of arrears of daily wagers among other things, said union’s general secretary in a statement today.

Resentment
Metalling of roads in Sec 39 demanded
The poor conditions of roads in Sector 39 is being resented by the Residents’ Welfare Association of the Water Supply Complex. According to a press release, metalling of roads has not been carried out for the last 10 years. In the absence of storm drainage system, the rain water remains accumulated for days together.

Passport applications processed
The Regional Passport office, Chandigarh, has processed all applications which were received till May 24, 1998 and were found complete in all respects, according to the weekly report on status of passport applications for the week ending August 7.

Interviews on Aug 17
Students who have qualified the entrance test conducted by Panjab University for admission to L.LB and post-graduate diploma in computer applications at Panjab University Regional Centre, Muktsar, have been asked to appear for an interview on August 17 for admission. According to a press statement issued by the university, admission to the L.LB course will take place at 9.30 a.m. and for the diploma course at 2.30 p.m.

MBBS academic session opens
The inaugural function to mark the eighth academic session of the new MBBS batch of students of Government Medical College was held today at the Paryaas building, Sector 38 today. Prof D. S. Dubey, Director PGIMS, Rohtak was the chief guest. Earlier, Prof V. K. Kak, director-principal of the college, laid stress on learner-oriented teaching.

Saplings planted
Saplings of medicinal trees were planted at the Government High School, Sector 38-B, to mark the conclusion of the golden jubilee celebrations of Indian independence. According to the headmaster of the Government High School, Karam Chand, a cultural programme was also organised.

525 administered Hepatitis B vaccine
n A Hepatitis B vaccination camp was organised at the Manav Mangal High School, Sector 21-C, by the Department of Social Service and Survey. According to the vice-principal of the school, S. Sardan, 525 students were vaccinated.

Tree plantation function held
A tree plantation function was held at Government Model High school, in Sector 34-C, here today. President of the Parent Teacher’s Association Major Avasthi presided over the function sponsored by SBI.Prizes were distributed to meritorious students.
