Essay contest
The Guru Nanak Universal Brotherhood Society is organising an essay competition on the topics: "Guru Nanak’s Udasis: their purpose, impact and achievements" and "Guru Nanak and Meritocracy – the cardinal principle of Sikhism". A statement issued by Society general secretary M.S. Rahi said that enries can be submitted till December 20, 1999 at Society’s office at 2040, Sector 21-C, Chandigarh. Prizes of Rs 2,500, Rs 1,500 and Rs 1,000 will be awarded to the top three entries. The essay can be in any language.

The president of the Sikh Nari Manch and city councillor, Harjinder Kaur, today hailed Jagir Kaur’s re-election to the post of president, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee. "With Jagir Kaur’s re-election as SGPC chief, the Sikh Panth will open a new chapter by giving prominent status to Sikh woman," she said.
