Cricket coach Amladi dead
MUMBAI: Former Mumbai Ranji Trophy cricketer, who later became a respected NIS-trained coach, Vasant R Amladi, died here this morning after a long illness. He was 79.
The Kozhikode-born Amladi, who turned out for Mumbai from 1947-48 to 1952-53 as a late order batsman who could bowl medium-pace, had the distinction of scoring a century on his debut in Ranji Trophy against Sind here.
Amladi, whose brother Mohini also played for Mumbai and later became a coach, scored 480 runs at an average of 36.92 in 12 matches in the national championship. He also took six wickets, with a haul of 3 for 24 against Maharashtra here as his best display.
Amladi was also the president of the Cricket Coaches Association of Mumbai.
Indian team for world junior athletics
NEW DELHI: A four-member team, including one woman, will represent India in the VII IAAF World Junior athletic championship to be held in Annecy (France) from July 28 to August 2.
Team: Baiju Mirandi(800m), Sanjay Kumar Rai (long jump, triple jump), Navpreet Singh (shot put) and Sunita Rani (3000m, 5000m).
Diana Memorial match on Sony
MUMBAI: Sony Entertainment Television would telecast (deferred) the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial cricket match between Mike Atherton led MCC XI and Sachin Tendulkar led Rest of the World XI at Lords on July 18.The match will start at 1530 hours but viewers can see the match from 1630 hours to 1930 hours and from 2010 hours to 0200 hours, a release said here today.

Don King innocent on all counts
NEW YORK: A federal jury found boxing promoter Don King innocent of all counts at his second trial on charges of faking a contract to cheat Lloyd’s of London out of $ 350,000. The jury yesterday was unable to reach a verdict on charges against his company, Don King Productions Inc.
