Even after the announcement by the two main groups fighting the IMA district branch elections to agree upon the verdict of the senior doctors on selection of a new team, there was no development with regard to reaching a consensus today.

Dr Mitra said today his team was dismayed at backing out of Dr Dewan and his team from their own proposal of entrusting faith on Dr Chawla, Dr Khurana and Dr Lajpat Rai to form a unanimously accepted new team. “Dr Chawla has told us that none of them has given them in writing so far about this, whereas our team had given them in writing yesterday,” he said in a statement released today.

Meanwhile, responding to the allegations levelled by Dr Gursharan Singh against Dr Arun Mitra who is one of the three presidential candidates, Dr Narotam Dewan today said the expenditure of over Rs 1.5 lakh within four days during December was a serious matter. The three members of his team who were part of the executive committee also tendered their resignation from the committee.

“We request the election commission to look into the matter so that doctors against whom allegations about the ‘misuse of funds’ have been made should obtain no dues from General Body meeting which should be called for the purpose immediately,” Dr Dewan has written to the IMA election commission.

“We would also request the election commission to call a special general body meeting and ask the persons managing the accounts of IMA to present the detailed account of each and every rupee spent during their tenure from 2006 till date. This will save the image of IMA and restore accountability and transparency.”

On the other hand, Dr Arun Mitra, presently president IMA, Dr Rajeev Gupta, secretary, and Dr Karamveer Goyal, finance secretary, condemned the malicious propaganda by Dr Gursharan Singh against the present team of IMA, in a statement released here today.

“When the present team took over one year and eight months ago, the IMA House was in a shambles, there was no electricity connection in the name of IMA and the whole IMA House was being occupied illegally by Ashok Dev under his patronage, for which we are fighting a case in the court. The water supply and sewerage bills for Rs 46,052 were unpaid for several years and the enhancement money of the Improvement Trust was not paid at all. This amount of Rs 23,053 has now become Rs186435,” the statement said.
