PARIS, AUGUST 15: Zinedine Zidane said he found transfer fees paid recently by big European clubs `ridiculous’.

“It’s meaningless. When I hear in my own case people talk about 500 or 600 million Francs (70 or 90 million dollars), I find this ridiculous.

“Seriously, it is ridiculous. Because there’s no limits anymore,” he told Sports daily L’Equipe in an interview.

“And when some constantly point out that Luis Figo or Rivaldo make more money than I do, I’ll tell tham this – I’m not jealous.”

Portugal’s Figo was transferred to Real this summer for $ 56.1 million.

Reports have circulated that Zidane, the Juventus playmaker, had been approached by Real Madrid.

But the Frenchman insisted one of his goals was to win the champions league with Juventus after losing in the final in 1997 and 1998.

Vialli gets Frank attack
LONDON:
Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf has launched an astonishing attack on Gianluca Vialli, claiming the Blues Chief `has problems with everybody’.

The blast comes on the eve of the new Premiership season and could put Leboeuf’s place at the club in doubt.

Leboeuf told Football 365’s French sister site Football365.fr: “Vialli has problems with everbody, with Albert Ferrer and many others. It’s normal for a coach to get along with his lads, but not him.

“Last year he didn’t back me up when I had problems with the referee during a game against Leeds. He even tried to get me out of the club. But when Patrick Vieira had discipline problems, Arsene Wenger supported him.”It appears that Leboeuf has resigned himself to leaving London. He added: “I would like to finish my career at Chelsea, but I’m not sure that the coach has that much faith in me. I don’t know what’s in store for me since there are rumours that Gareth Southgate will be arriving.

Strasbourg snubbed
PARIS:
First division racing Strasbourg said on Tuesday that they had launched legal proceedings against their own fans for racist insults during the 3-1 home defeat by Monaco.

At the end of last weekend’s match a group of about 50 fans insulted coach Claude Le Roy and two French players of African origin, Mamadou Bagayoko and Habib Beye.

The fans told le Roy, who coached Cameroon and Senegal, to “return to Africa”.

“To hear fans asking you to resign after a home loss is every coach’s fate,” Le Roy said. “But this is not acceptable. I have spent my life being welcomed by people who are a different colour to me. Difference in colour is a notion I’ve completely forgotten,” he said.
