Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry on Monday asked the International Labour Organisation to exercise caution in interpreting restrictions on work stoppages in essential services as “forced labour” as this would hamper economic growth in developing countries in the backdrop of present global economic trends.

In its presentation to ILO, the chamber recommended the provision of a special legal mechanism to deal with industrial disputes in essential services. It said submissions be made to an independent judicial authority for justice to workers.
