VADODARA, July 16: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) continued its demolition drive by razing unauthorised construction of 22 houses and commercial complexes between Nizampura cross roads and Chhani Junction on Thursday.Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Administration) H S Patel said out of the 92 people who were given notices, 70 voluntarily demolished their constructions falling in the road margin.The operation continued for more than six hours.Patel said the defaulters had not paid heed to the notice served earlier, and so were given notices under section 260 (2) of the Bombay Provincial Municipal Corporation (BPMC) Act.Seven shops in the Navdurga Society, staircase of Victory Tailors, two stores and a shop under the staircase of Jay Complex, a shed made by Kala Kendra and unauthorised construction by Radhika Farsan Mart were razed. Sheds constructed by Bhagvati Stores, Eagle Auto Centre, Swaminarayannagar and S R Petrol Pump were also razed.Meanwhile, the civic body through a public notice has appealed all those who have encroached upon civic land, footpaths, or the margin area or the public roads to clear the encroachments voluntarily, or else face action. The VMC has also warned that those who do not demolish encroachments themselves, will have to pay administrative charges. It has also made it clear that notices will not be issued before taking action.Sapling plantation: The VMC on Thursday began its sapling plantation drive at a function between Munjmahuda and Vishwamitri Bridge. Among others, Mayor Ratilal Desai, Municipal Commissioner G R Aloria, attended the function. The Corporation has planned to plant saplings at a cost of Rs 2 crore in different parts of the city. The amount has been collected over the years from persons who had applied for building permissions.Water pipeline: Residents of nearly 500 houses between Prem Prakash Ashram and Vidyanagar Pool have heaved a sign of relief with the laying of a new six inch pipeline. According to councillor Ishwarlal Shevani, the pipeline has been laid from the fodwari budget.
