PUNE, May 15: Encroachments covering about 1000 square feet area at Hotel Samudra in Somwar Peth were pulled down by the anti-encroachment squad of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) during a day-long operation.

The squad razed to ground some other encroachments in residential and shop premises at Rasta and Somwar Peths. Action was also taken against handcarts parked on footpaths and roads in Swargate and Hadapsar Gadi Tal areas.

An illegal shed in front, unauthorised enclosure on the mezzanine floor and a temporary bamboo shed were demolished in premises of Hotel Samudra run by Suresh Gholap at Somwar Peth House no. 372, according to civic anti-encroachment squad chief Gautam Waghchaure. Among other structures demolished were “pucca” construction in parking space to occupy over 400 square feet area for residential purpose at Somwar Peth House nos 211, 212 and 213 and shed the side margins of shops at Rasta Peth House nos. 254 and 323, he said.
