A meeting of the directors of all the six Indian Institutes of Management was held here today and the issue of reservation discussed at length, though the officials preferred to maintain silence on the matter.

Emerging from the meeting, IIM-Ahmedabad Director Bakul Dholakia said he “would comment on the matter only after getting a circular from the government”. When pressed to answer if the UPA government’s move to reserve seats for OBCs in Central universities, IITs and IIMs was discussed in the directors’ meeting, Dholakia replied in the affirmative but refused to divulge any details.

The IIM-A director, however, did not hide the resentment of all IIMs on the service tax issue and said “many of us have got notices from the departments concerned and we oppose it as we are an educational institute and not a placement agency.”

He said all the six IIMs would coordinate with each other over this matter and approach the sales tax department and also the Tribunal in the coming days as this was a disputed matter.
