Suspended Kerala IG Tomin Thachankary has filed a caveat in the High Court to prevent the attachment of his properties by the Kerala Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau. The controversial police officer also said he had initiated measures to furnish a guarantee of Rs 95 lakh before the Government.Last month, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan and Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan cleared a recommendation by Vigilance Director Upendra Verma to suspend him from service. Raids were also conducted on his residence, his wife’s Riyan Studio and his relatives’ houses last week.Thachankary is also charged with conducting foreign trips without the permission of the Government and evasion of stamp duty and registration charges to the tune of around Rs 6.5 lakh. A couple of months back, the Vigilance Bureau recommended that the IG be kept out of service following charges that he had tried to threaten subordinate officers who were probing the case. The case against Thachankary surfaced in January 22, 2002, after costly electronic items were seized from Thachankary’s gunman.
