With the Election Commission announcing the poll schedule for J-K, the BJP has demanded that elections be held simultaneously in Gujarat too.

BJP parliamentary party spokesman V.K. Malhotra today said the law and order situation in Gujarat was ‘‘more conducive to elections’’ than in J-K and condemned the ‘‘double-standards’’ of the Congress and the ‘‘secular brigade’’ on seeking a popular mandate.

‘‘We hail the announcement of the schedule. It makes sense to club Assembly polls if they are held in quick succession,’’ he said.
