KONDHALI, November 25: Precious idols of Hindu gods, believed to be worth crores of rupees in the international market, were stolen from the local 200-year old Taka Deosthan.

The theft came to light after a devotee looked into the sanctum sanctorum of the temple.

In a complaint lodged with the Kondhali police, the temple management said the ashtadhatu (amalgamation of eight precious metals) idols of Ram, Lakshman, Shatrughna, Krishna, Saraswati and Annapurna were probably stolen between November 12 and 23.

The temple management contends that the theft may have occurred when some Naga sadhus halted at the temple. The idols of Ram, Lakshman and Shatrughna weigh around 30 kg each while the other idols weigh around 2 kg each. It is surprising how the theft went undetected immediately especially as the idols are quite impressive.
