As a prelude to the first ever recruitment drive, to absorb more than 500 Kashmiri youth, undertaken in the Valley by the Indian Air force (IAF), pilots today enthralled school children and public at Dal Lake with their acrobatics in the first air show organised here.
There was chaos outside Bakshi Stadium as youngsters jostled to make it to the venue for the recruitment drive. Defence spokesperson Mukhtair Singh said: ‘‘More than 500 youngsters would be recruited in the technical and non-technical staff. Today, around 1,400 youngsters came for the tests.’’
In the show that lasted 45 minutes, 25 fighter aircraft took off from airbases in Ambala, Halwara in Punjab and Awantipora in Kashmir.
