JULY 31: There is no proposal to increase air fares of Indian Airlines to recover losses, Lok Sabha was informed today.
Fare hike is resorted only to offset increase in costs which otherwise cannot be absorbed by the company, Civil Aviation Minister Sharad Yadav said in a written reply.
There have been ten accidents involving civilian aircraft during the last three years, including the Alliance Air Boeing crash in Patna on July 17.
While seven of these aircraft were destroyed in the accidents, three suffered substantial damage, Yadav said.
A few flights of Air India have been delayed or cancelled due to "irresponsible attitude of some pilots to fly the planes during the last three years," he said, adding that some flights were delayed due to technical reasons.
The Government will examine and evaluate quotations from various parties for taking aircraft on dry lease for Air India and Indian Airlines, before the recommendations were put up to the Boards of the two airlines, Yadav said.
He said Air India had no immediate plans to expand its operations due to lack of aircraft capacity.
