After his loss in the recent students’ elections, Tejpal Singh Cheema, president of Panjab University Students Union (PUSU), is finally back to his original intention––studying. “At the moment I am concentrating on my future and my career. I wish to stay away from all controversies and will make a comeback at the right time,” says the final-year student at theDepartment of Laws, Panjab University.
Cheema’s name was dragged in quite a few controversies, including allegations of molestation and involvement in clashes, but things have settled down now.
“I did what I felt was right and even in the future, I plan on doing the same. I have always followed my heart,” he said.
Anyways, all the charges were concocted by his rivals, he says. “I was projected as a womaniser everywhere and the media blew the issue out of proportion as well. But I never broke down as I knew I was right and everyone I cared about believed me too. In the end, after all the inquiries, I was proved innocent.”
The law student says that politics is one platform where he has learnt how to handle all hardships in life. “Once you are involved, the fear recedes. I have learnt that to conquer all fears, you need to just jump in and give your 100 per cent.”
