After delivering lectures to MBA graduates from Indian and US business schools about the successful turnaround of Railways, Union Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav on Tuesday seized the importance of scripting a successful turnaround in politics too.

Speaking at the Foundation Day celebrations of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India ICSI in the capital, Lalu recounted that despite him not becoming a home or defence minister in the UPA government, he used the opportunity he got as railways minister to script a success story.

8220;It is a fact that I wanted Home or Defence earlier, and I have said it several times. But, since I did not get it, I tried to maximise the opportunity I got in Railways and have successfully shown how to turn it around,8221; Lalu said. He also emphasised the need for investment in power and other infrastructure that create employment for the rural populace. But he said these projects should not be taken up in a manner that would create violence and adversely affect investment.

8220;My party has been opposed to acquiring land for private industries. However, if farmers want to sell their land and they find it profitable, there would be no violence. But the land should not be forcibly taken away,8221; he said.

In fact, Lalu explained that people will not get food by raising 8216;revolutionary8217; slogans but only through investments that would create jobs for the rural people. Referring to Nandigram, he said these kinds of violence adversely affect the investment and should be avoided at best.

The RJD leader and Union Minister for Corporate Affairs, Prem Chand Gupta, also talked about the steps being taken by his ministry in the direction of Limited Liability Companies, which is likely to increase the investment in the small and medium industry segments.
