MUMBAI, JULY 13: Income Tax (I-T) sleuths are baffled by the catch they made on Monday evening at the residence of a petty businessman in Dadar. During a raid, the officers of the Directorate of Investigation (I-T) found Rs 2.40 crore cash stashed in the man’s modest house.

That is close to former communications minister Sukh Ram’s booty of Rs 3 crore the CBI had found in a raid.

While senior officers were tightlipped about the seizure and the man’s identity, sources confirmed that the amount of cash has baffled the officers. The businessman has apparently explained the cash as the collective savings of some generations of his family.

Curiously, the man’s business is equally modest: He supplies printed forms to government departments, sources reveal. While investigations are continuing, the man has said nothing more than claiming that the money was collected over the years by way of savings.
