Son of a top Purnea trader was kidnapped this morning while going to school for the I-Day celebrations. Though the police killed the four kidnappers, they had handed over the boy to another group just before the encounter. The police said the accused were members of the Raju Mishra gang, wanted in several criminal cases.
Twelve-year-old Mudit Kumar Jain, a Class IV student of Purnea Zila School was on way to school when his car was intercepted at gun-point, at a desolate place. He was bundled into another car. Mudit is the son of Sanjay Jain.
Purnea Superintendent of Police (SP) Sudhanshu Kumar said on getting information, they sealed all entry and exit points to the district and set up barricades.
“When intercepted, the four opened fire. In the encounter, they were gunned down”, the SP said, adding that before that, they had handed over the boy to another gang.
“Two gangs, one given the task of kidnapping and the other negotiating the ransom money, were involved,” the SP said.
One carbine, one pistol, two country-made pistols and several rounds were recovered from the spot. So far, the family has not received a ransom call. The SP said they had clues to the whereabouts of the kidnappers.
