KAITHAL, April 5: The six-week ordeal of a woman who was allegedly abducted and gang-raped several times came to an end only when her husband raided the kidnappers’ hideout and rescued her last month.

The husband, Raja Mukhia, a labourer of Pundri town in Kaithal district, says that the police declined to help find his wife. And even refused to register a case against the accused after his wife was rescued. The couple then approached Kaithal Superintendent of Police Parminder Rai who registered the case.

The police, however, say Mukhia didn’t ask them for help. The SP also says that according to "information received", Mukhiya did not go to the Pundri police station before or after his wife’s alleged abduction.

A case was registered on March 31 and the 30-year-old victim appeared before a magistrate to record her statement on April 2.

A police party has now been sent to Roshanpura village to arrest the alleged culprits.

In her statement before judicial magistrate Satish Ahlawat, Mukhia’s wifetestified that on February 4, her neighbour, a woman named Boni, invited her over for tea. She claims that after having the tea, she felt dizzy. She says she was taken to a bus-stand in Pundri, put in a tempo in which two of the alleged rapists — Laxman and Manna — were sitting. She claims she passed out at this stage and when she woke up, she found herself in Nalwi village. Here, she alleges, she was forcibly married off to Manna.

From Nalwi, she was allegedly taken to Roshanpura village in Kurukshetra district and repeatedly gang-raped by Manna and Laxman. She says the two were later joined by Dharma, and the three raped her several times.

They threatened to kill her if she told anyone of her plight. According to her, the abductors even tried to sell her off for Rs 25,000 but the deal fell through.

On March 19, Mukhia claims, he broke into the house where she was kept and freed her. He told The Indian Express that some people in Pundri who knew of Laxman and Manna gave him clues about wherehis wife could be.

He alleges that before that, he had gone to the Pundri police station with his wife’s photograph to file a complaint, but the police had refused to listen.
