SURIN (THAILAND), Aug 25: A top Cambodian Opposition leader conceded here on Monday that the last Royalist bastion of opposition to strongman Hun Sen could fall “at any time,” but warned it would become a beacon of the resistance.

Sam Rainsy, leader of the Union of Cambodian Democrats, said that while the stronghold of O Smach was likely to be overrun by the forces of Second Prime Minister Hun Sen, resistance to his strong-arm government would continue.

The comments came as Hun Sen’s troops launched a fresh fierce assault on besieged Royalist troops in the dusty town, after seizing around four km (2.2 miles) of crucial territory on Sunday, leaving the beleaguered Royalists pinned against the Thai border fence.
