Former Uttaranchal revenue minister Harak Singh Rawat filed a case of criminal conspiracy against Indrani Devdi alias Jenny today, alleging that the woman’s claim that he has fathered her child was part of a plot to defame him.

The court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Dehra Dun, has admitted Rawat’s petition under Section 211, 120-B and 500 of the IPC and fixed August 18 as the next date of hearing.

Rawat, who came to the court today, told reporters that the CBI has charged him with raping Jenny in a New Delhi guesthouse from September 2-6. He showed newspaper clippings to prove that he was in Dehra Dun at that time.

Asked about the others named in his petition, Rawat said he stands by his resignation letter in which he has accused state Chief Secretary Madhukar Gupta and the DGP of conspiring against him.

Rawat said he has been ‘‘humiliated and defamed’’ since Jenny levelled the charges against him one-and-a-half month ago.

Meanwhile, Awadash Kaushal, the chairman of an NGO called Rural Litigation and Entitlement Kendra, said they will provide legal help to Jenny.
