GURGAON, Nov 24: Deputy Commissioner Gurgaon, Krishan Kumar said that a team of the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) would conduct a survey to ascertain the land required for the golf course. ``Since we will have to acquire the land falling in the buffer zone, the demand has to be ascertained first,'' Kumar said. About 1400 acre of land falls within the probibited zone of 1000 yards of the ammunition depot. This land comes under the Defence Act and Controlled Areas Act, which puts restriction on construction of any structure within 1000 yards of the depot. However, in violation of this act a large number of unauthorised structures have come up and the govt has largely failed to check up this mushrooming of concrete jungle. The govt's proposal to set up a golf course here will have far reaching ramifications as not only will it be able to preserve the green belt but also put an end to the haphazard unauthorised constructions.Proximity to the national capital will make it commercially lucrative. The ancillary facilities for a golf course like-caffteria, restaurant etc can easily be set up in adjoining sectors, said an official. Officials of the administration informed that they were planning to suggest around 200-300 acres of land for this project after going through the legalities and technical aspects.Interestingly, the Air Force is also reportedly setting up a golf course within the ammunition depot. The golf course is the brainchild of Air Chief Marshal, S.K. Sareen. Serving will be open only for serving and retired defence officers. The buffer zone of 1000 yards which comprises of land of seven villages - Gurgaon, Inayatpur, Sukhrali, Sirhol, Mullahera, Carterpur and Choma - has been a topic of controversies over the years. The Ministry of Defence (MOD) and the state govt. have been at loggerheads as the govt could not eraze the illegal structures within the 1000 yards despite repeated pleas by the MOD. Political intervention was said to be the reason behind the administrations lackadaisical attitude. The administration on the other hand, has suggested that since this was a prime piece of land the ammunition depot should be shifted or a barbed fencing should be erected to check such growth.
