CHANDIGARH, May 19: The Haryana Congress has decided to launch a state-wide agitation from June 12 to protest against the failure of the HVP-BJP alliance government to provide “crime-free and clean” administration in the state.
Disclosing this at a press conference here today, Haryana Congress President and MP Bhupinder Singh Hooda said the decision was taken at a joint meeting of state party office bearers, district presidents, party MPs, MLAs, heads of frontal organisations and party cells on May 18. Also, it plans to start a mass contact programme to educate people about the failures of the Bansi Lal government.
While the party plans to hold demonstrations at all district headquarters, its mass contact programmes will cover 5-10 villages in each assembly constituency. Disputing the claim of Chief Minister Bansi Lal that the alliance government had fulfilled all its electoral promises, the HPCC(I) President said that none of the promises had been fulfilled by them. “It has failed on all fronts during its two-year rule in the state,” he alleged.
When quizzed about his party’s prospects in Adampur, Hooda said that the party nominee – Kuldeep Bishnoi, son of former Chief Minister and his arch rival Bhajan Lal – would have a cakewalk in the Adampur Assembly byelection slated for June 3. “The political influence of AICC president Sonia Gandhi and Bhajan Lal will swing it for us,” he added. When asked whether he would campaign for the party candidate during the byelection, the HPCC(I) leader said he would do so if necessity arose for it. Incidentally, Hooda is learnt to have opposed the candidature of Kuldeep from the contituency. The byelection has been caused by the resignation of Bhajan following his election to Lok Sabha from Karnal.
He also criticised the Centre’s decision to raise the retirement age of its employees from 58 to 60.
