Himachal Pradesh government has decided to implement HP Maintenance of Parents And Dependents Act, 2001, for providing security to parents who are neglected by their wards.
An official spokesperson said the government is also setting up a one-member tribunal under the provisions of the Act and will appoint the Sub-Divisional Officers concerned as its presiding officers.
Under the Act, in case parents or dependants feel they are being neglected by their wards, they can claim monthly allowance. HP is the first state in the country to enact such a legislation. It has been made mandatory that cases pertaining to maintenance are decided within six months and the maximum allowance has been fixed at Rs 5,000.
