CHANDIGARH, NOV 17: Himachal Pradesh with 265 points bagged overall title in the 19th Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) annual sports meet which concluded at Basic Training Centre, Bhanu, near here. Jammu and Kashmir-I secured 130 points to win second spot while Garhwal Sector with 69 points were third.

Bansi Lal of Himachal Pradesh hogged the limelight by bagging gold which was his third in the meet, in the energy sapping event 3000 metres steeple chase. Earlier, he had won gold medals in 10,000 and 5,000 metres.

In the race today, Bansi Lal, hot favourite ran brilliantly while others in the fray struggled to finish the race. After two-lap, Bansi was in command and had a lead of 50-metre. At the half way mark Bansi was a clear winner as he led the pack of 10 runners by more than 100-metre, who were covering the distance at a pedestrian pace. In the last 800 metres of the 3000m, Bansi kept on increasing the gap with each stride and finished the race in 10:05.69 while Urba Dutt Joshi (Log) put up a brave efforts in the closing stages to win second place in 10:20.00. Modh Tohid (Kumaon) was distant third in 10:50.45.

Divakar Prasad, Inspector General, ITBP, Headquarters, present on the occasion, announced out of turn promotion for Bansi Lal.

Himachal Pradesh Sector bagged first place in 4 X 100 metres relay by clocking 46.48. Second and third place went to J&K-I and J&K-II, respectively. J&K-I finished in 46.55 while J&K-II clocked 47.61.

In 400 metres, Om Prakash in lane number 2 ran a well judged pace to outclass his team mate Kashmir in the last 50-metre to breast the tape in 52.78 seconds while Kashmir Singh got the second spot in 53.31. Sanjay Kumar of HP was third in 54.50.

Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister, Himachal Pradesh, was chief guest on the occasion.

Results: 400m: 1 Om Prakash (J&K-I), 2 Kashmir Singh (J&K-I), 3 Sanjay Kumar (HP). 3000m steeplechase: 1 Bansi Lal (HP), 2 Urba Dutt Joshi (Log), 3 Mod Tohid (Kumaon). 4 X 100m relay: 1 Himachal Pradesh (Surender Singh, Uttam Chand, Sanjay Kumar, Lekh Raj, 2 J&K-I (John Methaw, Om Prakash, Surender Singh, Kashmir Singh, 3 J&K-II (Babul, Shivender Kumar, Birender Kumar, Lankeshwar). 20km walk: 1 Wohd Abbas (Kumaon), 2 Hardeep Singh (HP), 3 Dhian Singh (HP). Pole valut: 1 Suresh Babu (J&K-I), 2 Prakash Singh (Garhwal), 3 Rajbir Singh (Kumaon).
