And all the controversy over Ahmedabad may not ever have taken place. A senior member of the Gujarat Cricket Association, in New Delhi for the BCCI meeting today, said the Board had not included Ahmedabad in the original schedule for the Pakistan series, having sensed trouble from the onset.

The Board changed its stand only after the GCA raised objections, claiming they would incur losses to the tune of Rs 70 lakhs.

After the decision was announced, though, GCA president Narhari Amin was a happy man at the prospect of a one-day match coming his way.

‘‘I argued with the working committee and told them to question the PCB about the duration of this no-go to Ahmedabad’’, Amin said today. ‘‘Will they not play here till 2007, 2009 or 2011? When will they think that Gujarat is peaceful again?’’

‘‘I agree to their concern but all through the meeting I just wanted to make one point clear — that’s about the reason they have given. Three years have passed since the city witnessed communal tension but today everything is fine.’’

‘‘During our tour to Pakistan we played an ODI at Karachi even after our security team marked it as a trouble torn zone. Ahmedabad today is much safer than what Karachi was then.’’
