Hosts Jammu and Kashmir defeated Puducherry 2-0 in the inaugural match of the 62nd J&K Bank national football championship for Santosh Trophy here today.

Both the goals came in the first half. Adil Qadir scored in the 25th minute while Bilal Ahmad made it 2-0 in the 40th minute through a penalty kick.

The home team could have won the match by a bigger margin had they not missed several chances. J&K attacked from the word go, with the first chance to score coming in the very second minute, with Bilal shooting just wide.

Qadir scored with a sizzling shot from the penalty area which hit the back of the net with the rival goalkeeper remaining a mute spectator. Bilal made no mistake with the penalty kick after Mohammad Asif was felled within the area.
