KOKRAJHAR, May 10: Tension and a sense of insecurity gripped Bodo and Santhal villages in the northern and western parts of Kokrajhar district for the eighth day today even as villagers belonging to both groups began moving to safer places.

The village of Borobeel looked more like a funeral ground with yesterday’s pre-dawn attack reducing almost all 85 houses to ashes and leaving ten persons dead.

Meanwhile, the district administration is having a tough time setting up relief camps for the panic-stricken villagers of both communities.

The Borobeel relief camp, which was set up exactly two years ago when Bodo-Santhal clashes left more than 160 dead and about two lakh homeless, is teeming again with homeless Santhals arriving in large numbers from adjoining villages after yesterday’s massacre.

And emptying rapidly are villages like Rampur, Garubhasa and Balagaon, with the fear of another attack looming large.
