Skipper Ambati Rayudu and Faiz Fazal impressed with the bat as Indian colts took a 190-run first innings lead against their under-19 England counterparts on the second day of the second ‘Test’ at Eden Gardens here today.
Resuming at overnight 119/2, the Indian boys piled up 337/5 to get a comfortable lead over England’s first innings total of 147.
Rayudu (86: 92b, 14×4, 2×6) and Fazal (94: 127b, 15×4), the overnight not out batsmen, stitched a 151-run partnership for the third wicket before the skipper fell victim to a Mitchell Stokes’ delivery that he edged to William Gifford.
Fazal was unlucky to miss the century-mark as he was bowled out by Andrew Miller when he was just six short of the milestone.
The hosts lost two wickets in consecutive overs shortly before the umpires called off the day’s play due to bad light about an hour before the scheduled close.
The game was earlier suspended on two occasions due to poor visibility because of cloudy conditions.
For the visitors, seamer Ben Harmison took 2-45.
Brief scores: England: 147. India: 337-5 (F Fazal 94, A T Rayudu 86, S Dhawan 41; B Harmison 2-45).
