Dancing and singing, several Union Ministers today celebrated Holi at Prime Minister Vajpayee’s residence.
External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha was among the first to arrive at the house along with a troupe that sang several traditional Bhojpuri songs. Sinha was followed by Information Minister Ravi Shanker Prasad and Civil Aviation Minister Shahnawaz Hussain, who even shook a leg.
Minister of State Vijay Goel added his bit to the revelry by singing a song from a Raj Kapoor film. A troupe called in by Goel also presented a dance showing Radha and Krishna playing Holi.
Dressed in a white kurta-pyjama, the Prime Minister sat in a chair, watching his Cabinet colleagues let their hair down.
Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani also made his way to the PM’s residence, but he ducked past waiting mediapersons. He was followed by Union Human Resource Development Minister M M Joshi, who applied gulal on the PM.
From VIPs to ordinary people, they all lined up to greet the PM. Vajpayee’s foster daughter Namita visited the press enclosure and applied ‘tilak’ on mediapersons. “Aap sab ka khayal rakhte ho, mein aap ka rakhungi” (You take care of everyone, I will take care of you),’’ she said.
Some hilarious moments were provided when the VIPs gathered to greet the PM.
Camerapersons suddenly found Vajpayee was out of range as his pandal was at a distance from them.
An anxious cameraman shouted at the Special Protection Group (SPG) sleuths, ‘‘Arey bhai SPG, Prime Minister ko clear kar do (Please clear the Prime Minister). Better coverage ka sawal hai bhai (A question of good coverage).’’
Vajpayee later left for Advani’s residence to greet him and his family.
