SRINAGAR, AUG 26: The Hizbul Mujahideen today cautioned its “political mentor” Syed Ali Shah Geelani not to spill the beans about happenings that preceeded ceasefire and its collapse, and urged him him to desist from statements that breed confusion among Kashmiris.
An obvious response to Geelani’s yesterday’s revelation that Hizbul operations chief Abdul Majid Dar had announced the ceasefire without consulting his Pakistan based supremo, Syed Salahuddin. “Salahuddin had no choice but to endorse the decision to prevent a split in the oufit,” Geelani had told a local news agency, Current News Agency. This appearently has put Dar in a spot of bother and reinforced the suspiscion that he has been cultivated by the Government.
“It is our humble request to (Geelani) that in the long-term interest of the movement, he should refrain from digging the past,” a Hizbul release said. “Shall a debate ensue it will neither harm Geelani, nor will it cause any damage to Majid Dar, but surely it will cause an irrepairable damage to the freedom movement,” it added.
