CHENNAI, SEPT 15: The Tamil Nadu units of the BJP and other organisations affiliated to the Sangh Parivar today called on the Union Home Minister L K Advani and presented a memorandum demanding constitution of a special cell in the CBI to investigate all incidents of Islamic fundamentalism in the state in the past 15 years.

The memorandum, which reiterated the demand for a CBI probe into the serial blasts at Coimbatore on February 14, said the centre should, suo motu, probe such incidents through a cell on the lines of the multi-disciplinary monitoring agency (MDMA) set up to go into the findings of the Jain Commission in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.

A delegation, including the State BJP President K N Lakshmanan and General Secretary L Ganesan among others, spent over half an hour with Advani at the Raj Bhavan here and argued their case for a CBI probe into the serial blasts.

However, BJP sources said, Advani took the position that it was up to the State government to take the initiative toorder a probe by the central agency. The memorandum, copies of which were given to the media, contended that it had inter-state ramifications and that many of the accused were also involved in the RSS office blast case in 1993 and similar incidents now being probed by the premier investigating agency.
