Himanshu Thakkar shuttles to jr boys title

In the men’s section, top-seeded Nimish Goyal easily brushed aside the challenge of 33-year-old Benhur Solomon 15-3, 15-3.

Seventeen-year-old Uma Madhavan bagged the junior girls singles title beating second-seeded Rashmi Yeolekar 11-7, 11-7, to record her maiden title triumph.

Sumedh Deorukhkar and Ashay Thakkar will clash against each other in the sub-junior boys singles final, which is expected to be a close encounter tomorrow. Both of them have already combined together to win the doubles title in this category by an easy 15-2, 15-3victory over Merrick Gonsalves and Anish Kanekar.

Irani nets two

A fine brace by Burzin Irani helped St Xavier’s, Fort to drub Our lady of Salvation, Dadar 4-0 in an under-14 match of the Colgate Palmolive-sponsored Inter-Schools Football League at the Azad Maidan this morning.

Irani opened the account with a powerful volley in the fifth minute.He added the second to the tally ten minutes later with a neat placement.

Grocy D’Silva netted the third with a long ranger while Girish Utankar completed the rout with a strike in the dying minutes.
