Apprehending environmental degradation, the Himachal Pradesh Environment (Protection) Department has ordered a halt to the construction work at 192-MW Allain Duhangan hydro project, near Manali.
The project, being executed by the Allain Duhangan company, a subsidiary of Bhilwara group, has been mired in controversies for environmental reasons. An inquiry into the charges was ordered by the Chief Minister early this year. The company has been fined Rs 5.95 crore for different violations at the site.
