NEW DELHI, August 11: Heavy but scattered rainfall left several parts of the Capital untouched today. And if the weatherman is to be believed, not everybody in the city will enjoy the showers, at least not for the next couple of days.
While some parts of Delhi were plunged into traffic snarls caused by water-logging, for others it was just another humid day. Connaught Place, ITO, Mandi House and Kasturba Gandhi Marg and Dhaula Kuan commuters could be seen stranded as traffic cops tried to restore order. An office-goer stranded in the rain said: “The city’s civic services get properly exposed when it rains. The brief, but heavy rain, has completely disrupted the traffic and it would mean at least an hour’s delay in reaching home.”
The Met office recorded 1.8 mm of rain today and the forecast is cloudy skies with `selective’ rain or thunder showers for the next two days. Explaining the reason for the scattered rainfall, Director (Delhi) S.C. Gupta said: “The south-easterly winds create low pressure and the air is heavy with almost 90 per cent humidity. When it gets lifted by the cold air above, it rains. Since these clouds were not formed everywhere, the showers were scattered.”
