Meanwhile, the hot wave in the region continued unabated today forcing the people to remain indoors. Deterioration of water supply system and constant power cuts have further made the things hard for the ordinary person.

The powermen are finding it hard to cope with the situation due to sudden rise in the demand of power by the consumers. Significantly, a unit of Guru Nanak Dev Thermal Plant here which is being repaired, could not start production till date.

Further, the first unit of Guru Hargobind Thermal Plant at Lehra Mohabat, which had started commercial production last week, is producing only 70 megawat of power against the capacity of 210 megawat. This is because of the damage caused by a fire which broke out in the plant two weeks back.

A spokesman of the PSEB claimed that the first unit of Lehra Mohabat plant would attain its peak production after two weeks. He said that the closed unit of the local plant would also be set rolling soon.
